The Book of Lagos

The autobiography of a city.

I think of everything I make as part of one book. Not a book with a beginning and an ending, but one made of different worlds, characters, families, gods, saints, sinners, paintings, and sculptures. Each body of work is a chapter. They do not happen in a neat order because cities do not either. People disappear and return. Stories overlap. Old things survive inside new ones. Myth and ordinary life sit next to each other. Lagos is the thing holding it all together.
