Taking inspiration from Giovanni Strazza’s depiction of Mary “The Veiled Virgin”, the artist depicts a young woman also partially obscured from view by a face covering, this time wearing Gele. Weddings, which Ówàmbẹ̀ usually celebrate, are moments which have historically revolved around themes of purity and sacredness, of extrinsic calm yet intrinsic dynamism, and it is that dichotomy which he chooses to represent in capturing the flow of her veil rippling over a still face.
